Those Drums

Those Drums
Walked out to the edge of town and
looked out on the hills surrounding me
I do believe
that everything is tied up like a
North Korean spy inside a
room without a key
It’s all stuck in slow suspension,
clumsy underwater fencing,
yesterday’s newspaper weapons,
careless first and sloppy secondly
It was the drums that convinced me to come home
It was the droning in my bones
Little cells never really held me well
Never quite could carry me
Over at the baseball field where
all the hearts I tried to steal run free
Out beyond the first base line
My sneakers off and grass stains on the knee
Fortify the earth below me
Planting every step so slowly
Can I be the one and only…
It was the drums that convinced me to come home
It was the droning in my bones
Little cells never really held me well
Never quite could carry me
It was the drums that brought me home
I'm convinced there’s magnets in my shoes
Keep pulling me right back to you
Every time I try to pry them loose
It’s no use
It was the drums that convinced me to come home
It was the droning in my bones

You To The Rescue!

You To The Rescue!
I hit bottom and the bottom dropped out
And the top came unhinged and the sky fell down
Was draped in sackcloth and drying my tears
Pumping my brakes and grinding my gears
And it was you to the rescue, yeah you to the rescue
It was you to the rescue
I ate crow and the crows ate me
And the blows came faster than I could breathe
But I turned my back, grabbed the oars
Made a brave face and faced my fears
And it was you to the rescue, yeah you to the rescue
It was you to the rescue all these years
And it was me with the can of gasoline when you were empty
And it was me with the joke when you were down, down, down
And it was me with the breeze when the stagnant air just wouldn’t move
And it was you to the rescue, yeah you from the start,
It was you to the rescue, yeah you who saved my drowning heart
And it was me with the can of gasoline when you were empty
And it was me with the joke when you were down, down, down
And it was me with the breeze when the stagnant air just wouldn’t move
And it was you to the rescue, yeah you to the rescue
It was you to the rescue
It was you to the rescue, yeah you from the start
It was you to the rescue, yeah you who saved my drowning art

Tigerstripe Cushions
Didn’t ya notice the way I came to you
Came unfocused, came unglued
I was talking local news
But you and your friends, talking bout big plans
To travel the world on a pogo stick
Jumping around like some lunatics
Ain’t getting off till we all get sick
And go over the edge
And didn’t ya see me holding up the walls
I wouldn’t let you come to any harm
You’d be safer in somebody’s arms
But you and your friends talking bout big plans
To travel the world on a pogo stick
Jumping around like some lunatics
Ain’t getting off till we all get sick
And go over the edge
Well I noticed the way you looked at me
Like I was a house cat caught in a tree
You and your friends on tigerstripe cushions
You were watching me from a distance
Well I was open to a little discussion
Me and your friends talking bout big plans
To travel the world on a pogo stick
Jumping around like some lunatics
Ain’t getting off till we all get sick
And go over the edge
Go over the edge
Go over the edge
Me and your friends
Talking bout big plans
Talkin bout big plans
Talkin bout big plans

You Should Know
The secant of a circle enters where it please,
crosses the middle and leaves.
The two points created, related by the line,
separated by space and by time.
And you should know that I'm a little crazy
Sometimes I think a dragon's out to slay me
And I know that you're a little uptight
Cause I watch you when you walk and I've seen the way you drive
The secant of a circle coming from afar
Casually cuts through the heart
The angles becoming entangled in the cords
Shaking belief to the core
And you should know that I'm a little crazy
Sometimes I think a dragon's out to slay me
And I know that you're a little uptight
Cause I watch you when you walk and I've seen the way you drive
I see the way you walk, I see the way you drive
I see the way you come home
I see the way you're always on time
I see the way you walk, I see the way you drive
I see the way you come home
I don't know why I don't sometimes
The jet trail crossing the circle of the sun
Creating two parts from one
The barrier broken, the sound lingers on
Long after the vapors are gone
And you should know
You should know
You should know
You should
